Ask any paediatrician and they'll tell you ,diaper rash complaints rise sharply once the rains begin. If your baby's bottom seems redder and more irritated this season, you're not imagining it. Here's what's happening, and how to stop it.
Why monsoon makes diaper rash worse
Diaper rash is caused by prolonged contact with moisture, friction, and the ammonia in urine. In humid weather: sweat adds extra moisture inside the diaper, skin takes longer to dry after every change, and warm, damp conditions let yeast and bacteria multiply faster. In short, the monsoon turns a mild irritation into a stubborn rash much more quickly.
6 ways to prevent diaper rash this season
1. Change diapers more frequently. What worked in dry weather isn't enough now. Aim for a change every 2–3 hours and immediately after stools.
2. Clean thoroughly but gently. Use a soft, soothing wipe at every change. Novel Babio Goat Milk Wipes ,India's first ,are enriched to nourish delicate skin while cleaning, making them a great monsoon companion.
3. Dry before you diaper. This is the step most parents miss. After wiping, give the skin 2–3 minutes to air-dry completely before putting on a fresh diaper.
4. Use a barrier cream. A thin layer of zinc-oxide-based rash cream shields the skin from moisture. Apply on completely dry skin only.
5. Schedule diaper-free time. Even 15–20 minutes of open-air time, twice a day, dramatically reduces rash risk. Lay a waterproof sheet and let your baby play free.
6. Check the diaper fit. A too-tight diaper increases friction and traps humidity. If you see red pressure marks on the thighs or waist, size up.
When to see a doctor
If the rash is bright red with satellite spots, has blisters or pus, or doesn't improve within 2–3 days of home care, consult your paediatrician ,it may need antifungal or medicated treatment.
