Those tiny red or pink bumps on your baby’s neck, back, chest or skin folds? That’s most likely heat rash — what we call ghamoriyan or prickly heat. It’s very common in Indian summers and, thankfully, easy to prevent and soothe at home.
What causes heat rash?
Babies have tiny, still-developing sweat glands. In heat and humidity, sweat gets trapped under the skin instead of evaporating — causing those itchy little bumps. It shows up most where heat and moisture collect: the neck, underarms, nappy area, and skin folds.
How to prevent it
- Dress your baby in loose, breathable cotton — no synthetics, no tight layers.
- Keep the skin cool and dry — wipe away sweat gently and often.
- Keep the room ventilated, ideally 24–26°C.
- Give diaper-free time so the nappy area can breathe.
- Avoid heavy creams that block pores in hot weather.
How to soothe heat rash gently
The goal is simple: cool the skin and keep it dry. Wipe sweaty areas with cool alcohol-free, fragrance-free water wipes — they clean and cool without stinging irritated skin. After patting dry, a light dusting of aloe vera & neem baby powder helps absorb moisture and keep the area dry and fresh. Dress in loose cotton and let the skin breathe.
When to see a doctor
✓ The rash doesn’t improve in 3–4 days
✓ You see pus, blisters or swelling
✓ Your baby has a fever or seems very uncomfortable
